Named roads

Every entity this platform has ever given a permanent name to, live and retired combined. A name survives a map rebuild and survives the road being gone, which is the whole reason the register exists.

Map versions

How many times the road map has been rebuilt. Every reading names the version it was taken against, so a figure from an old version is never quietly compared with a road that has changed since.

Named pieces of road

Every road this platform can attach a measurement to has a permanent name of its own. It keeps that name when the road is redrawn, and keeps it even after the road is gone.

The map itself — the lines and the junctions — is not built yet. What exists so far is the naming, which is what stops a reading losing the road it belongs to.

Each time the road map is rebuilt it gets a version. A reading always names the version it was taken against, so a figure from last quarter is never quietly compared with a road that has changed since.

Junction arms

How many roads meet at each junction. Until recently the table could hold only four per junction, so a fifth arm was silently dropped — which matters in Amman, where 7th and 8th Circle are six-way.
